In 1977, Professor Dr. Abdul Kabur bin Mohamed Ibrahim joined the Malaysian Administrative and Diplomatic Service (PTD) and was posted to the Ministry of International Trade and Industry. He was appointed as an Assistant Director for Trade promotion. (As regards to trade promotion, he has managed several trade missions, fact finding missions and Malaysia’s participation in International Exhibitions. He has travelled extensively covering many African, Latin American and Middle East countries).

Later he was posted as the Malaysian Trade Commissioner and the Economic Advisor to the European Union in Brussels in Belgium – Diplomatic Appointment. In 1992, he was posted from Brussels to Johannesburg, South Africa as the Malaysian Trade Commissioner to Southern African countries. He was responsible for the opening of the Malaysian Trade Commission in Johannesburg and to establish diplomatic relations between Malaysia and South Africa – Diplomatic Appointment.

In 1999, he took optional retirement at the age of 40 and started a consultancy in South Africa to assist Malaysian public listed companies in their investments in the African and Latin America Continents. He has been responsible for many of Malaysian investments in South Africa, Ghana, Guinea, Namibia, Mozambique, Madagascar, Congo-Kinshasa, Zimbabwe, Argentina, Peru and Chile.

He was also responsible for the setting up of the Madagascar Development Corporation in Antananarivo for the government of Madagascar in 1995 and was responsible for initiating Bilateral trade relations between Madagascar and Malaysia. He was also appointed as the representative to the Malaysian Palm Oil Promotion Council for Southern and Eastern African countries.
